In this period of Coronavirus, it would be easy to answer it in a terse sentence: “because we have no choice“. And given the difficulties of travelling right now, that’s not wrong. Nevertheless, we hope that these containment times will soon be behind us. So better answers to why trekking in France come to mind. These are the ones we offer you to discover.

For its mountains

Although France is a rather flat country on the whole, it has many mountain ranges. From the oldest to the newest, the reliefs of the latter are more or less easy to traverse. So where will you do your next itinerant hike ?

The Alps

It is probably the most touristy massif in France. Indeed, its relative proximity to the major cities that are Paris, Lyon and Marseille make it the number one destination in winter for skiing, and in summer for walking. However, if we avoid the most famous places, we find without difficulty places to enjoy nature in peace.

The Pyrenees

Less high than the Alps but more wild because less exploited, the Pyrenees have a lot to offer. If there are no large natural lakes, the water is plentiful and the waterfalls and small lakes are legion. It is also the only place in France to meet bears on the loose!

The ancient massifs

If you prefer greener and less steep landscapes, you can head to the Jura, the central massif or the Vosges. They also make it easy to add a cultural touch to your holiday. Indeed, cultural sites are usually a reasonable time by car. There are still other massifs: Morvan, Armoricain, etc… but if they are beautiful regions, the altitude is so low that I will not talk about it like mountains…

For his ribs

With almost 3500 kms of coastal distance, there is plenty to choose from: Cliffs of Brittany or Normandy (like Etretat above), beaches of the moors or Mediterranean coves… to name a few!

For its cultural heritage

France is at the crossroads of Europe, which has earned it a rich history. From this comes a well-stocked heritage of medieval villages, churches and other prestigious buildings. It’s really easy to have a cultural holiday, no matter where you are. Are you a lover of walking and history? Why not try to walk part of the paths of Compostela.

For its gastronomy

Here we talk about terroirs… And there are many of them! Each region has its typical dishes, its local production, its controlled appellations. Gastronomy is so important in France that its meals have been integrated into the intangible cultural heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. So take your time and enjoy local dishes and wines!
