Today, I propose to make you discover another hike in the Italian Alps from Campiglia Soana to the barn of Arietta. This loop goes through the sanctuary of San Besso. The start is therefore Campiglia (1350m) to reach the great Arietta (2335m). Once at the barn, a side road allows us to reach the sanctuary, the end is the same as that of our previous hike.
Toward the barn
The climb is quite strong and constant throughout the well-marked path. There are many waterfalls that brighten the way. We will of course cross a herd of pastured cows once they arrive at the barn.
From the barn to the sanctuary
Once the few photos of cattle taken, we go back to the sanctuary of San Besso. At the turn of a bend, we arrive in the field of cows with their calves. These last occupy the path. So we have to make a choice: move the cows away by shaking or passing the other side of the electric fence. We hesitate. Italian cowboys seeing us procrastinate come to our aid. With a few gestures, they repel cows and calves from the path. They then seize the fence with full force to allow us to pass more easily. She was not electrified … 🙂
The path to reach the sanctuary of San Besso is relaxing because with little elevation and varied: fields in bloom, scree, crossing streams …
The descent
Once arrived at the sanctuary, we join the hike we had made a few days ago.
For those who would like to hike from Campiglia to the arietta barn themselves, you can find the layout and more information on the Wikiloc website (in french though). It is also possible for the more athletic to climb to the pass but it adds 3h30 and a lot of elevation to the route …
And if you want to take a look at our other hikes, our “catalog” is waiting for you!
