Hiking from Campiglia to San Besso

Today I invite you to discover a small piece of Italy with a hiking in the Italian Alps from Campiglia Soana to San Besso. This is a loop. The start is at the height of the village at 1350m to reach its highest point at the sanctuary of San Besso at 2019 m. Part of the return is on the same path as the way out.

The climb offers several landscapes. First of all, the forest appears, with holes to see the surrounding mountains. Then it becomes clearer and can allow you to see chamois depending on the season. In December, we had seen a lot of them, but in the summer, with the grazing of the herds, we will have to wait for the descent on the other side.

That being said, cows are good too. Crossing a herd with your family can be a time of adventure for those who are not used to it! The sanctuary itself is especially interesting for its view. It is a great location for lunch. And because we often travel as a family, this is an important time for the children.

The descent on the other side can reveal chamois and marmots. Both being quite stealthy, you have to open your eyes! But even without it, the view is superb. But I’ll let you judge for yourself by looking at the few pictures below.

For those who would like to do this hiking from Campiglia to San Besso themselves, you can find the route and more info on the Wikiloc website (in french though).

And if you want to take a look at our other hikes, our “catalogue” is waiting for you!
