I like Angers and Sablé

We invite you to discover the departments of Sarthe and Maine et Loire with its two city walks. The first concerns the city of Angers, prefecture of its department with a superb castle. As for the second, it is a walk that can be gourmet in the small town of Sablé sur Sarthe. We hope that the overview of these two cities (Angers and Sablé) will make you want to discover the charms of this region.

Angers Castle

Departure of our tour of Angers from the castle

After parking near the castle (photo below), we head for the city center. Quite quickly, a blue line on the ground catches our attention. Indeed, it seems to be close to beautiful monuments. We don’t need more to decide to follow him. Subsequently, we will discover that this is an initiative of the city to allow its discovery. And, as far as we are concerned, we were not disappointed! So do not hesitate to follow the Angevin blue line (in french though)!

Old houses and monuments

The blue line takes us with a sure step from nice surprises to nice surprises. We thus discover the superb half-timbered houses that dot the city. But Angers is also full of more recent but equally interesting buildings, including a very successful art deco building. Unfortunately, the main attraction is the blue and gold paint on the front and doesn’t match the photo I took of it at all. I’m not showing it to you, but you can appreciate it on this dedicated wiki page (in french though).

And other points of interest

Obviously, the city also has churches, although we only visited one during our walk. It also has a large, very modern wall fresco which is worth a look. However, if you are a fan of street art, I recommend that you watch our trip to Vitry sur Seine instead.

Our walk ends here. The next day, we opt for a smaller town and closer to our resort.

Angers and Sablé-sur-Sarthe

This time we set off again on foot from the house to head towards the town of Sablé. We take advantage of a shaded bench to have a picnic before arriving in the city. The first sight with the Sarthe is superb.

Sablé-sur-Sarthe

Sablé-sur-Sarthe: love for details

As we walk through the city, we have the opportunity to appreciate small architectural details that we like. In addition, there is, of course, the famous shortbread shop! Unfortunately it was closed at the time of our visit so we were unable to purchase any here. Fortunately, there are boxes of cookies everywhere! 🙂

And beautiful monuments again

Again, the church is one of the classics, but it is not the only one. A castle also offers its beautiful forms to the view of the walker. In short, a nice walk nearby with some superb views over the river.

We hope that these walks in Angers and Sablé-sur-Sarthe made you want to discover these cities. In any case, you can also find our previous hikes below:
