Why trekking in Mongolia?

Mongolia attracts with its large natural spaces. And for good reason, since this country, three times the size of France, has the smallest population density in the world with less than two inhabitants per square kilometer! Enough to walk in nature without being disturbed by hordes of tourists … However, this is not a sufficient argument to go there on vacation. So why trekking in Mongolia?

Walk along the Altai Mountains

The “golden mountains” (translation of the word Altai) cross several countries: Russia, China, Kazakhstan and go as far as Mongolia. Moreover, it is at the end of this mountain range that the famous Gobi desert is located. These are mainly landscapes of medium mountains whose shapes are visible behind the yurt in the photo.

Explore the Gobi Desert

Covering nearly a third of Mongolia, the Gobi Desert is one of the largest desert in the world. Note however, that it is mostly covered with stones and not sand, even if there are dunes as above. This is the opportunity to ride camels (and not dromedaries which are only present in Africa) to relive the Silk Road a little.

Take a break from the traditional Naadam festival

This national holiday would have been created by Genghis Khan and its tradition still continues. It is one of the most popular gatherings in the country, during which the athletes will compete in different events:

  • Archery
  • Horses race
  • Mongolian wrestling
