Urban hike in the colors of Vitry-sur-Seine

This time, it’s an atypical walk (at least for us) that we are offering you. Indeed, it takes place in an urban “jungle”: the city of Vitry-sur-Seine. It also considers itself the capital of Street Art. The animals that you will see there are therefore inked on the walls of the buildings. Nature lovers, you can go your way. On the other hand, if you also like culture, then this urban hike in the colors of Vitry-sur-Seine is for you. Check out our overview of graffiti below.

The jungle of Vitry sur Seine

Start of the hike from Vitry-sur-Seine RER station

Normally this hike is not a loop but starts and ends at an RER station. For our part, we left the car nearby and made a loop to retrace our steps. The tone is set immediately with an immense fresco presenting a robot. To tell the truth, we did not see it on the way there but only on the return … which allowed us to benefit from a beautiful night lighting …

Walk to Place Jean Martin

Once launched, don’t let go of your attention, there’s graffiti everywhere. And they’re often worth a look. It also gives us the impression of walking through an open-air Street Art museum. We end up arriving at one of the high points of this walk: Place Jean-Martin. In fact, huge frescoes line the square framed by a building.

Hike among the paintings to a building courtyard

We then leave the square to walk the streets again. Once again, we no longer know where to look among all the works that we come across. Besides, we took more than 120 photos… To quickly illustrate this part of the journey, we had to make a drastic selection. We held up a nice-sized bird, a butterfly girl and a wall pass before arriving in the courtyard filled with graffiti again.

Last part of our hike in Vitry-sur-Seine

The expected duration of this hike was two and a half hours. However, as we stop regularly to admire the works or take pictures, the night surprised us. We decide to shorten the walk to regain our starting point. Along the way, we have the opportunity to appreciate many portraits …

But not only! The diversity of subjects and types of representation is difficult to capture in a few photos … So we will only put these few animal paintings to finish.

To conclude

A dense cultural hike that could also appeal to children. If you like to take photos, plan three hours or even three and a half hours to fully enjoy the works. If our thirst for nature has not been satisfied, that for culture has been largely satisfied!

I hope that makes you want to go for this urban hike in the colors of Vitry-sur-Seine. There are also other variants for those who want to walk for a longer or shorter time, which you can find on Visorando (in french though).
