Hiking around Dixmont

For this outing, we move a little away from the Paris region. Indeed, it is located between Sens and Auxerre, an hour and a half drive from Paris. To be more precise, this is a hiking around Dixmont of about 13km.

Dixmont Church

Start of the hike

The departure is from the parking lot of the church. Then we quickly arrive in the fields to start this country walk.

The forest portal

After a short walk along the cultivated land, we enter the shadow of the forest. It was partly part of the domain of Baron Eichthal during the Second Empire. So she logically keeps some traces of it, as shown in the photo below.

Portals in the middle of the forest

The undergrowth gives us the opportunity to admire some forest flowers as well as other remnants of the past.

Back in the fields of Dixmont

We come out of the forest, to walk again, near fields. This time, it is sunflowers blackened by the end of summer, or pastures that accompany us. With its hilly landscape, the area offers beautiful panoramas.

Lunch near Dixmont Priory

A planned deviation allows us to go and enjoy this monument. A cyclist, we learn, that it has recently been restored and sometimes hosts shows. As we are hungry, we decide to take our break around here.

The Priory of the Furnace

Back in the forest

The walk is really nice because it alternates between fields, forest and village. So we enter the forest again. But this time, we get lost for a few minutes. Trees were felled on the way, completely masking it. Finally, using the phone’s GPS, we find the intended trail.

Kiosk a little before we get lost

Last part country

At the exit of the forest, we will have the opportunity to come across a person making sure that the path is well marked. The latter is very well done and, moreover, we take this opportunity to thank him and all those who do this work. Finally, we finish the walk, much like we started, with a path through fields.

Roundballer is coming…

In conclusion

A very nice half-day loop hike in the Yonne. The end of the ride offers an original touch with the vision of an orange tractor that has lost its fight with the surrounding nature…

I hope it makes you want to go hiking around Dixmont. If so, find all the necessary information about Visorando (in french though).
